If there is one thing I have learned throughout my journey of studying Scripture, church history, and the spiritual realities that surround us, it is that much of what the early believers understood about God, His Kingdom, and the Christian life has gradually been forgotten, diluted, or replaced over time.
This book was born from a simple but profound question: Have we lost sight of the biblical perspective that shaped the faith of the first followers of Jesus?
The journey begins with a subject that was once central to both Jewish and Christian understanding—the fear of the Lord. While often misunderstood today, Scripture presents the fear of the Lord as the beginning of wisdom, the foundation of spiritual understanding, and the doorway to a genuine relationship with God. Yet in much of modern Christianity, this vital truth has been either neglected or reduced to something far less than the biblical writers intended.
From there, the book explores the unseen realm that forms the backdrop of the biblical story. The Scriptures reveal a world that extends far beyond what is visible to human eyes—a realm of spiritual beings, heavenly councils, angelic activity, rebellion, redemption, and an ongoing conflict that influences both nations and individuals. Understanding this worldview sheds new light on countless passages that are often misunderstood in modern interpretations of Scripture.
As the narrative unfolds, we examine the development of the early church known as the Ekklesia and trace the gradual transition from the simple, Spirit-led gatherings of the New Testament Ekklesia into the increasingly institutional structures that emerged over the centuries. We explore how eldership functioned within the earliest Christian communities, how leadership evolved, and how the rise of denominational systems altered many of the patterns established by Christ and His apostles.
The book also investigates worship, comparing the participatory, life-centred worship of the New Testament with many contemporary expressions that have become heavily focused on music while often neglecting the broader biblical understanding of worship as a surrendered life.
Throughout these pages, we also examine the influence of ancient spiritual systems, including Babylonian and Egyptian religious structures, and consider how many of their principles continue to shape worldly systems and cultures today. These explorations are not intended to promote fear or speculation but to provide historical and biblical context for understanding the ongoing struggle between the Kingdom of God and the kingdoms of this world.
